Easy Coffee Cake
This simple coffee cake is easy to make. It is a great first recipe for a child learning to bake. You probably have all of the ingredients already on hand.
Ingredients
- ¼ c. butter or Crisco
- ¾ c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla or lemon extract
- ½ water or milk or coffee!
- 1½ c. flour
- ¼ tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- ½ c. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1½ Tbsp. butter
Instructions
- Cream the shortening and sugar together.
- Then add the egg and extract and mix well.
- Then mix in the liquid.
- Combine the 3 dry ingredients, and add in to the liquid ingredients.
- Spread the batter into two greased 9 inch pans (circles or hearts).
- Melt the butter and combine with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Then sprinkle the mixture on top of the batter.
- Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 22 minutes.
- Be careful not to overbake or it will be dry.
