Today I’m going to show you how I used napkins and ribbon to decoupage a beautiful design on a wooden book storage box. Someone gave me this box a long time ago, and I was never quite sure how to decorate it– until now!! I’m so glad that I saved it!

Did you know that you can decoupage on wood? It’s such an easy way to make a big impact. It gives the illusion that the wood is handpainted. Let me show you!

Valentine’s Day is coming, so I knew that I wanted to do a romantic pink theme, to go with the God is Love napkins that I received from Christian Craft Paper.

My painted wood storage box turned out better than I even imagined! I love it when that happens, don’t you?! This would be a perfect gift for a little girl, or any girl really. Girls love having boxes to put their treasures in.

This is a little wooden storage box that looks like a book. The hinges are where the pages would be, making it a little tricky to get open if you don’t know that.

This is a fun place to hide treasures or chocolate on a bookcase in plain sight without anyone knowing about it!

I told you when I did my pink Christmas tree that I’m not a pink sort of gal. It’s still true. But some occasions, like Valentine’s day, call for pink!

I had two different Christian hymn napkins, so I put one on the inside of each side of the wooden box.

I had thought I would decoupage flowers where the pages would be, but I decided to use ribbon instead– and I’m so glad I did, because it’s perfect. But if you don’t have ribbon, decoupaged flowers would look really nice, too.

I used Matte Mod Podge for this project. It would look pretty sealed with glitter Mod Podge, I think, but I did not seal this book at all. I don’t think it needs it. I like the feel of it the way it is. You could also use an aerosol spray sealer as another option.

If you’ve been wanting to be crafty and creative, but get stuck knowing what to do, a Craft Club might be the perfect thing for you! Christian Craft Paper used to do a video of the project kits they send out, but they are going to start doing the projects live in their group instead, so you’ll have someone to craft with!

I wanted the spine to have the flowers turned on it just like you see it in the picture below. You can’t even tell that I turned the napkin upside down on the bottom part! That shows you how good of print quality these napkins are (and made in the USA, too!)

I wish I had a dozen more of these boxes to make more for gifts and to sell at a craft fair. Hmmm. Found some!! And only $5 apiece!

What would you store in a book storage box like this? I used four napkins on my box, but you could use just one on the front and it would still be just as gorgeous. Watch the video for details on how I made my storage box look so pretty with just paint, Mod Podge, napkins, hot glue, and ribbon.

Have you ever decoupaged on wood? What should I decoupage next?! Watch out world!
