All year I’ve been preparing to show you this gorgeous glass ornament and music Christmas Decor. The glass ornaments are from King of Christmas, and this is my fourth year collaborating with them!

Preparing a Room to Decorate for Christmas

Like I said, literally allll year. Did you ever think about the part where you get the room ready before you actually start decorating?! We finally replaced the windows in our dining room, and I decided it was a great time to redo the trim around the windows. But at the same time, my “latissimus dorsi” muscle decided it was a great time to inflict great pain on my side, (something about getting older?) so I had to hire out some of the work to get the trim ready to stain. (More on that in another post.)

Then, our animals decided to wreak havoc on my rug, so I was forced to get a new rug. Except I had a specific color theme in mind (to match these ornaments– and also my curtains….) and I couldn’t find what I wanted. At least not at the price point I was willing to spend. Finally, I decided to DIY my own rug— and don’t you think it turned out great?!

How to Secure a Heavy Christmas tree Topper

I already knew which ornaments I was going to use– but I needed a topper. I needed a music themed topper since I was doing a music theme. Hmmm…. Would this Hymnbook Angel that I had made work? Maybe? It was awfully heavy though….. and I knew from past experience that it was not easy to put a dowel rod into a tree— because my tree was so close to my ceiling.

That’s when I decided to use a tension curtain rod. It was sturdy enough, and it could start out short— but then I could lengthen it while holding it in place just by twisting it! And I needed the length so that I brace the weight of the hymnbook angel topper to the tree. Does that make sense?

I twisted it back short before putting it up into the tree. The rod just fit into the spine of the hymnal. I secured the rod with some twisty ties.

I left the heavy hymbook angel topper up for a week or so before I put the glass ornaments on the tree, because I wanted to make sure it wasn’t going to fall over!! And I did not want any of those beautiful glass ornaments to break! And I had 3 boxes of them! I had guessed that 3 boxes would be enough to decorate my tree and my garland– and I was right.

So after the topper was done, then I glued hymnbook pages into rolls using a thick dowel rod. I added some colored garland deep into the tree and on the mini trees, and into the prelit garland from King of Christmas (the mini trees, wreath, and garland are part of a 4 piece set).

I leave this winter painting on my hutch year round (and so far I have a fall canvas to place over it for fall– but I still need something for the other seasons).

Aren’t these little angels perfect for the miniature trees? One has a songbook, and one has a trumpet. If I remember correctly, they were gifts from a piano student. I’ve had them for ages.

Here is the entire room. Back in the corner– that large star? It was the topper for last year’s tree— so fun to reuse things again in a different way so that your time and effort was worth it.

A wreath can go on a blank wall just as well as a door!

Of course you remember this thrifted hutch that I painted? So glad I went through that effort because it is not only a wonderful places to store things in all those drawers and doors, but it is also a perfect place to display things. What you don’t see now is the candy dish that my piano students love to choose from.

I’ve had these piano plates for over 20 years– and now is the perfect time to display them in the hutch! And yes– these piano plates and saucers are my every day dishes. What else would you expect from a piano teacher? I don’t think they are available anywhere now… all I can find are paper ones.

Do you love blue and green and teal as much as I do? I’m so pleased with how this room turned out. As always, I hope seeing these ideas inspires you as you make them your own, in your own house. Do check out my other Christmas tree ideas. Every year I think the color scheme and theme is so beautiful, and then it just keeps happening again each year! : )

Oh how could I forget to tell you that this Christmas tree— the lights are remote controlled? You can turn the tree on and off, or change the settings to different types of blinking with the remote, too! And if you have two (or more) trees, you can control all of them with the same remote. The garland and miniature trees plug in, and the wreath is battery operated with just 3 D size batteries.
Ok, I think that’s everything.
