Snippets 2
Hi All!
Friday I finished two huge projects that I’ve been working on for awhile. The first one was the rock wall turned rock hill that borders our driveway. I’m waiting to take the finished AFTER picture until the grass gets mowed, and weed-whacked and all that…
The Rock Hill used to be a rock wall. But several rocks were removed to rebuild a wall under our porch turned pantry. And then another part of the wall was run over by a contractor….
I started this project in the spring, but it soon got soooo HOT! And then I just couldn’t seem to get up early enough AND get outside before it got too hot. It finally cooled off AND I’m outside (notice I didn’t say “up”) soon enough before it gets too warm.
I wanted to rebuild the wall, but I soon realized that I didn’t have the patience or skill to prepare the ground properly to build a straight wall. I don’t even know how to dry stack rocks properly. So I quickly changed my plans and now it is— a Rock Hill.
In 20 or 30 years someone else will decide to turn it back into a wall, and that’s fine with me!
The second big project that I finished was replacing the covers on the seats of my kitchen chairs. You can see the first set of covers that I made HERE. But the seats were a little tight, and they’ve been ripped for quite awhile, even though I tried to repair them.
So I used up my gray velvet fabric, which is very stretchy, and made new seat slipcovers for my favorite kitchen chairs ever. They are so comfortable! We never have to say—“let’s leave the hard chairs and go sit in the comfy ones”—because they are not hard. I think everybody should have chairs like these! The vinyl, when they were newer, was so easy to clean!
And now the slipcovers are just as easy to wash when they get dirty—and they do get very dirty.
The Garden
Some cute pumpkins grew in my compost pile. I decided to try to sell them at my new roadside stand, but I haven’t had any takers. I did give one to my son’s bus driver! And that’s probably what I will end up doing with most of them—giving them away.
A neighbor had 2 apple trees that were bursting with good ripe apples. I went twice to pick apples, and one morning my daughter and I worked together and made 3 pies. And that brings me to today’s GREAT IDEA.
Great Idea #2
It’s actually my daughter’s idea. She used the pizza cutter to cut the crust and make it round. Isn’t that a good idea?! She likes using my round cutting board because it’s just the right size for a round pie crust. Guess where I got my round cutting board?
For free of course, when someone was getting rid of a lazy susan. I took it apart and voila—a cutting board!
What’s New
I listed some things for sale on a site new to me. Mercari. Have you heard of it? I have several more things I’d like to list as soon as I get a chance. It seems to be a great site for those odds and ends—things you tried to yard sale, but are too nice to send to the thrift store afterwards…. Of course I’d love it if you followed me there!
I took some time to go walking a couple of times this week. A neighbor texted and we went in the morning. It was such a great start to my day! I was productive the rest of the day. You would think that it might make a person tired and not want to do much the rest of the day, but for me it was just the opposite.
I’ll have to keep walking in the mornings and see if it continues or if it was just coincidental.
Until next time,
Liberty
Your pies look wonderful! Can’t wait to see the finished wall and I will have to check out Mercari. I’m doing great so far! Looks like you’re still very busy! Have a great day!!
