You can make a number birthday cake for any number. Start by drawing a “bubble” version of the number. Then fill it in with circles. Turn those circles into cupcakes and voila! An easy number birthday cake! Find lots more birthday cake ideas in my favorite recipes.

This cupcake cake is one of the easiest that I ever made!  I actually made this one and two others for my daughter’s fifth birthday party.  They were sooooo easy!  See the other ones here and here.

First, I put foil on a sturdy cardboard that I’ve used over and over for my cakes.

Then I just arranged the cupcakes into the 5 pattern shown below.  I put one pearl candy decoration at each center.  Where the cupcakes showed gaps between each other, I just piped extra frosting in between– see?

number birthday cake-- number 5!

This was sooo much easier than trying to cut a five out of a cake pan, and get the proportions all right.  But if you want that style instead, you can see where I did that here.
